Big Bash League Winners List 2011-2022

BBL is an Australian T20 league that can compete with IPL in terms of popularity. It started way before IPL in 2005-2006. But its latest edition Big Bash League started in 2011 which before was named Twenty20 Big Bash.

Big Bash is so famous that it comes in the list of top 10 popular domestic leagues and it features some of the world’s finest cricketers. It includes 8 teams from 6 different cities out of which 6 have already won their maiden BBL title. These teams are listed below:

• Melbourne Renegades
• Melbourne Stars
• Sydney Thunders
• Hobart Hurricanes
• Adelaide Strikers
• Brisbane Heat

Perth Scorchers and Sydney Sixers are the BBL’s most successful teams with Sydney Sixers have won the BBL trophy 4 times and Scorchers three. Following the BBL history, here’s a list of Big Bash League winners in each edition.

BBL Format

Big Bash League is played in a format similar to IPL. However, it is not completely similar as there are some obvious differences in the format. In BBL, five instead of the 4 teams are allowed to enter the play-offs stage.

First, eight teams will participate in the double round-robin stage, which means each team will play other teams twice. And then, the top 5 teams will enter the play-offs stage.

Here, the fourth and fifth-placed teams will play against each other in the Eliminator round. And 1st and 2nd placed teams will play in the Qualifier round. Now, the winner of the Eliminator and the 3rd placed team will play in the knock-out stage.

Following further, the winners of the Qualifier and the Knock-out will face each other in the Challenger round. And eventually, the winners of the Qualifier and the Challenger will play against each other in the finals.

In BBL 2020, three new rules were added to the game, namely:

BBL Winners List All-Season

1. Big Bash League Season 1 (2011-12) Winner: Sydney Sixers

Sydney Sixers is undoubtedly the most successful team in the BBL league. Having won the title three-time, they marked their entry from the beginning of the league by winning the very first season.

Two strong teams Perth Scorchers and Sydney sixers faced each other in the BBL season 1 final with Sydney Sixers winning by 7 wickets. Moises Henrique was Man of the Match.

2. Big Bash League Season 2 (2012-13) Winner: Brisbane Heat

Brisbane Heat was the BBL winners for the second season. They defeated Perth Scorchers by 34 runs when they batted first and set a target of 168 runs which Perth Scorchers failed to chase. Joe Burns played the best scoring 43 in 27 balls. While Nathon Lyon was being declared Man of the Match for his economical bowling.

3. Big Bash League Season 3 (2013-14) Winner: Perth Scorchers

After ending up as the runners-up in the last 2 seasons, Perth Scorchers finally won their maiden IPL title. This time they played against Hobert Hurricanes making a mammoth total of 191 with Shaun Marsh scoring 63. While Hurricanes ended up with 152 runs only. Brad Hogg was Man of the Match, as he picked 3 wickets.

4. Big Bash League Season 4 (2014-15) Winner: Perth Scorchers

In our Big Bash League winners list, Perth Scorchers came for the 2nd time with their second consecutive win in the 4th BBL season. The final happened between Perth Scorchers and Sydney Sixers. And this time, Perth Scorchers marked the victory to their name against their strongest opponents.

Sydney Sixers set a target of 147 runs while batting first which Perth Scorchers chased down quite modestly. Shaun Marsh was Man of the Match for his highest score in the finals.

5. Big Bash League Season 5 (2015-16) Winner: Sydney Thunder

Our next BBL final winners are Sydney Thunders. They won their maiden BBL title in BBL season 5 while playing against Melbourne Stars, who batting first set a mammoth target of 176 runs.

Sydney Thunders chased down the target giving 100% of them and scored 177 with 3 balls to spare. Usman Khawaja was named Man of the Match for his brilliant innings.

6. Big Bash League Season 6 (2016-17) Winner: Perth Scorchers

Perth Scorchers became one of the BBL’s most successful teams with their 3rd BBL title in season 6. They were playing against their favorite opponents Sydney Sixers and chased down the targeted score of 141 easily with 4 overs to spare. Jhye Richardson was Man of the Match for his 3 wickets.

7. Big Bash League Season 7 (2017-18) Winner: Adelaide Strikers

Adelaide Strikers became the Big Bash League 2017 winners while playing against Hobart Hurricanes. They won the toss and decided to bat first. Strikers scored a mammoth score of 202 which was the highest final score ever made by a team in BBL. Interestingly, they did so only at the loss of 2 wickets.

On the other side, Hurricanes could only manage 177 runs. Strikers’ success was named after Jake Weatherald who alone scored 115 runs over 70 balls. Also, he was named Man of the Match for his brilliant performance.

8. Big Bash League Season 8 (2018-19) Winner: Melbourne Renegades

In our Big Bash League champions list, next is Melbourne Renegades. They won their first BBL title during season 8 while playing against local rivals Melbourne Stars. The Stars failed to chase the target due to the collapse of consecutive 7 wickets for 19 runs only. Daniel Christian was Man of the Match.

9. Big Bash League Season 9 (2019-20) Winner: Sydney Sixers

During the BBL 2019, Sydney Sixers once again named the victory to themselves and became BBL 2019 winners by defeating the former runner-up Melbourne Stars. Sydney Sixer lifted the trophy for the third coming parallel to the Perth Scorchers. Also, an interesting thing about the match was that it was reduced to 12 overs due to rain.

10. Big Bash League Season 10 (2020-21) Winner: Sydney Sixers

Sydney Sixers became the Big Bash League 2020 winners after defeating their arch-rivals Perth Scorchers. James Vince was Man of the Match and lead Sydney Sixers to an explosive 188/6. While Perth Scorchers could only make up to 161 at the loss of 9 wickets.

Big Bash League Season 11 (2021-2022) Winner: Who will win the Trophy?

The 11th season of the Big Bash League will be held from the 5th of December to the 28th of January. And with so many fine players participating this year, one cannot predict the winners. Sydney Sixers are the defending champions having defeated Perth Scorchers a maximum of times.
