Bangladesh Premier League

The Bangladesh Premier League or BPL League for short is one of the three professional T20 leagues in Bangladesh. It was started back in 2011. And so far, a total of 7 seasons have been played. Each tournament is played in the Double Round-Robin T20 format where each BPL cricket team faces the other team twice. 

This way, a total of 24 BPL matches are played, 20 matches in the league stage and 4 in the playoffs session. Currently, Comilla Victorians are the BPL T20 league defending champions.

BPL T20 Format

The BPL premier league is played in the double round-robin T20 format. Here each franchise faces the other twice, in the league stage. There are a total of 20 matches in the league stage. Then, the top 4 teams from the last BPL league match go into the playoffs. 

There the top two play in the Qualifier 1 round, the winner of which qualifies directly for the Final. Then, the third and the fourth-placed teams play in the Eliminator round, the loser of which gets disqualified. 

This is followed by the Bangabandhu BPL league Qualifier 2 round. Here the loser of the Qualifier 1 round plays against the winner of the Eliminator round. And then finally, the winners of Qualifier 1 and 2 play for the title.

BPL League Teams

Usually, a total of six teams take part in the Bangladesh Prime League. However, before the BPL Bangladesh league 2022, it was announced that the Chittagong Vikings will be added to the league and replaced by two other teams. This way, the draft of 8 teams was cancelled. 

However, later that year, the Vikings were reinstated with a new name, Chattogram Challengers. And a total of six teams played in the BPL league with a maximum of 25 players in each team.

BPL League Winners List

While talking about the Bangladesh Premier League, only three teams have made it to the winners’ list, so far. Here’s the Bangladesh Premier League winners list: 

• Dhaka Platoon 
• Comilla Warriors 
• Rangpur Rangers 

Out of these, Dhaka Platoon is the most successful team in BPL cricket. They’ve won the Bangabandhu cricket title three times. While the Comilla Warriors became the winners of Bangladesh’s most professional league two times. And the Rangpur Rangers won the premier league in 2017. 

Also, Chattogram Challengers and the Dhaka Platoon are the only teams who played all seasons of the Bangladesh League T20.

BPL League Sponsors

Throughout the history of the BPL (Bangladesh Premier League), its sponsors changed. Every time there was a sponsorship deal of one year. For instance, for its inaugural season, the BPL league was sponsored by the Destiny Group, a Bangladeshi Conglomerate. It was a sponsorship package for 75 million takas. 

However, with the rising success of the league, its sponsorship money kept on rising. And then in the next year, it rose to 100 million takas and was awarded to Prime Bank Limited. 

Later in the 2015 season of the league, BRB Cables Limited held the sponsorship for 150 million takas. Then, Abul Khair Steel became the season four and fifth sponsor of the BPL cricket match. Let’s see who’s the champion of the Bangladesh Premier League.
