In the ICC World Cup history, the first Cricket World Cup was played in England, won by the West Indies. It was the first ever official international championship with the ODI format and was played in different overs from 40, 50, 60 to 20.

The first cricket World Cup was played in England between 8 different teams. England was the strongest of all.

English batsman Dennis Amiss scored the first century in the cricket World Cup history against India. While in group B, West Indies was the strongest team. Their match with the spirited Pakistani team was a treat to the eyes.

After winning in the inaugural season of the ICC World Championship, West Indies’ confidence was high. And with that attitude of a winner, they defeated the host team, England, by 92 runs. This was an easy victory for the Indies.

West Indies met Pakistan in the Semi-finals and defeated them by 43 runs to make a mark in the finals.

In the 1983 Cricket World Cup tournament, India became the first Asian team to win the ICC World Cup championship. It was an outstanding achievement for them, as they defeated the two-time champions in the finals.

It was the first title in the India World Cup history. They defeated West Indies by 43 runs at the Lord’s cricket stadium. It was this series where Kapil Dev played his captain’s knock and scored an unbeaten 175* against Zimbabwe.

After their arch-rivals, India, Pakistan was the second Asian team to win the World Cup championship cricket. Captained by the legendary Imran Khan, Pakistan defeated England by 22 runs at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

In the year 1996, Sri Lanka hosted their first ICC World Cup. And they made it to the finals, where they defeated Australia by 7 wickets and raised their first cricket World Cup trophy.

Sri Lanka’s captain Arjuna Ranatunga had a significant role in the team’s victory. His top score was 74. And India, even though it didn’t make it to the finals, had quite an impressive individual performance. Sachin Tendulkar was in good form, making the most runs of the series.

It was Australia’s year as they once again raised their ICC 50 over World Cup trophy. Australia defeated Wasim Akram led Pakistan by 8 wickets. Shane Warne took 4 wickets in the finals, giving away only 33 runs. And then later, he was declared Player of the Match for his performance.

Pakistan’s performance in the finals was very poor, as their highest score was only 22. All thanks to the sheer bowling of the Australian bowlers.

It was the second consecutive year for Australia to win their 50-50 World Cup (50 overs). However, this time they defeated India instead of Pakistan. India lost in the finals by 125 runs.

It was surprisingly a third consecutive win by Australia in the Cricket World Cup years. Australia defeated Sri Lanka by 53 runs and won their 4th title in the ICC World Cup history.

Both Australia’s batting and bowling side was strong. And it was a second back-to-back win for the skipper, Ricky Ponting. Moreover, just like the year before, Australia remained undefeated in all 11 matches.
