The 100 Cricket tournament was created in England. The idea for this tournament was launched in 2016 however, the format could not be decided completely so it did not happen right away. After some time, the format for the 100 cricket series was put forward and it had its first edition in 2021. Eight franchises took part in this tournament and each franchise had two teams. One team is for women and the other is for the men’s cricket players. These teams represent eight different cities of England. This tournament is held in England. The idea for this series was presented by the ECB to attract more audiences for cricket. It has been presented as a simplified version of the traditional cricket series so that everyone could enjoy it. The format for this series is that each team is given a single innings per match and they are to play 100 balls in each innings.

The Hundred Competition Rules

In a single match, every team is given one inning in which it gets to bat and the other team gets to ball. After the inning is over the teams switch and the team which batted first now gets to balls and field whereas the team which batted first now gets to bat as well. It is a fair game where both teams get equal representation and chance at scoring the highest and winning the game. The time in which a team bats is referred to as an inning. Each inning consists of 100 balls. The opposing team delivers 100 balls to the team whose inning is in process. The main goal of The Hundred tournament is for the team whose inning is in process to score as many scores as it can on a total of 100 balls. A single bowler is allowed to deliver a total of 20 balls. Here, it is up to the fielding captain to decide whether the bowler can get two consecutive sets of fives or different sets of fives throughout the innings that would cover its 20 balls. Each team is given a time out for two minutes in its innings. In this time out, the players can put on new tactics and the team can decide on how to go about securing the highest score. One team delivers 100 balls, the first inning ends and the inning of the team who bowled first starts. The roles of the teams in the first innings are interchanged. A powerplay of 25 balls is given to each team. In this powerplay, only two fielders are allowed outside of the circle that is of 30 yards. The duration of the game is usually around two and half hours. The team which scores the highest runs in the game wins the match.

New Brand Rules of the Hundred Cricket

The new brand 100 cricket rules of The Hundred cricket tournament include that only a total of 100 balls are given to each team in an inning, not one ball extra or one ball less. The toss for the game is not required to take place in the middle of the ground. There is a twist here that the toss can take place at an off ground location too. The ores do not occur like they are in traditional cricket. Here, the over consists of fiver deliveries and it is not called an over it is called Five. The umpire of the game calls the word five when five deliveries have taken place after that the bowler can either take another five or the bowler can be changed. Each bowler is only allowed 20 balls per inning. Another implementation that occurs in The Hundred cricket is that the fielding positions change after every 10 balls. The powerplay in 100 ball cricket is for the first 25 balls so that the team which is batting can have a head start. Furthermore, in the powerplay, only two players are allowed outside of the circle to field which is of about 30 yards. When the power play has been conducted, after that, the team that is fielding is allowed to take a time out of about two minutes. This is given to them so they can reform their strategies and get a clear outlook on the playing situation in the ground. In case if a dismissal is caught then the person who has not stroked is required to return to their original position. This stands even in the case when a cross has happened. When the teams are in the grouping phase and a tie occurs then they will be given 1 point each. However, when the final phase is upon the tournament and a tie happens then a Super Over Five is conducted to determine a winner of the game. The facility of DRS is given and the third umpire is present on the outlooks for the no balls. A penalty of over rate is enforced on the team and they are then allowed only one fielder outside the circle of 30 yards. The length of the game is kept very short so that the audience can enjoy it. The matches usually last only for about two and half hours at a time.

The Hundred Cricket Rules Terminology

The terminologies that are in use for the 100 ball cricket tournament are a little different. The terms which are used in traditional cricket are replaced by new simplified terms for the convenience of new audiences such as the words over, wickets and batsman are replaced with balls, outs and battery respectively.

How Are The Hundred Rules Different From A T20 Game?

Each team is given one inning and only 100 balls are provided for each inning. The T20 games traditionally have 120 balls per innings therefore, the 100 ball cricket tournament has 20 balls less than the conventional game of the T20 series. When the first 25 balls are delivered then the team which is fielding can take a timeout of about two minutes. The terminology of batsman is not involved in the 100 championship. The ICC tournament of T20 has a concept of six balls per over which does not exist in the hundred series. Here, the balls are divided into five sets of deliveries and it is referred to as fives in the series. The fielding captain makes the decision if a bowler will deliver two consecutive sets of fives or not.
