The format differences between IPL and BBL
IPL is an Indian domestic cricket league founded back in 2007 by the Board of Control for Cricket in India. It is contested among 8 cricket teams representing 8 different cities in India. And recently in the 2022 IPL edition, there’s an addition of 2 new teams into the league.
It is played during the summer season in India, from April to May and June. The game format is simply based on Round Robin and Playoffs stage. The first 56 matches are played with a group system, where each team plays against the other twice. And then, it is followed by a Playoffs stage.
On the other hand, BBL is the Australian cricket league organized by Cricket Australia. It is played on the same T20 format as IPL and was started first in 2011. It includes 8 teams from different Australian cities. Perth Scorchers is the current successful team with 4 titles to their name.
The format difference between BBL vs IPL is that BBL has 35 matches, 32 of them are played in the Round Robin phase, and 2 in the semi-final. And lastly, 1 in the final phase.
IPL VS BBL: prize money and salaries
IPL: IPL prize money has evolved massively over the years. It moved from INR 4.8 crores back in 2007 to 20 crores in recent years. And this is what made IPL a cash-rich league.
From 2018 onwards, the prize money for the winning team alone has become 20 crores with 12.5 crores for the runners-up team. And there are rewards of 8.75 crores each for third and fourth-placed teams.
However, back in 2020, due to the Covid-19 conditions, the prize money for the winning IPL team was halved to INR 10 crores with others following.
BBL: Cricket Australia has made a massive increase in the BBL prize money from a total of AUD 290,000 to a total of AUD 890,000. That means, now the winning team will receive AUD 450,000 (approx. Indian 2.45 crores). And the runner-up will receive AUD 260,000. Also, to add to it, each losing semi-finalist will receive AUD 80,000 with AUD 20,000 for the fifth finishing team.
