Lanka Premier League (LPL) is the professional cricket league of Sri Lanka founded back in 2018 by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC). It is played in the T20 format with five city-based teams involved.
The LPL League is played on the Double Round-robin format with Jaffna Kings being the most successful team of the tournament. Ravin Wickramaratne, the former Vice President of the SLC, is the current director of the tournament. Hereunder, we’ll talk about the history of SPL cricket and an overall performance overview of the Sri Lanka Premier League teams.

Sri Lanka League First Edition
The first edition of the Sri Lankan Premier League faced a set of postponements. At first, it was supposed to happen in the first year of its inception. But, then it was rescheduled multiple times due to administrative issues within SLC. And then, after two whole years, the SLC T20 League was finally announced to happen on 28 August 2020. However, amidst the Covid-19 Pandemic, it didn’t happen. Later, after a couple of re-schedules, the first edition of the Sri Lanka Cricket League began on 26 November 2020. The format of this edition LPL cricket edition was similar to the IPL. But, with a total of 24 matches involved, 20 in the league stage and the rest in the playoffs stage. After having occurred for the first time in 2020, the second edition of the SLC league took place the next year only. However, similar to the previous season, the LPL league second edition, was rescheduled multiple times. At first, it was supposed to happen between 30 July and 22 August. But then, due to the unavailability of overseas players, the LPL T20 league was rescheduled from 19 November to 12 December. But anyways, the SLC Twenty20 tournament 2021 originally happened on 5 December. And it lasted till the 23rd of December when Jaffna Kings defeated Galle Gladiators by 23 runs in the final. And interestingly, it was the second successive win of the Jaffna Kings. Plus, they’re the only champions of the Sri Lanka SLC T20 Tournament so far. The Lanka Premier League format was similar to the previous edition. However, before it was announced that two new teams will be added to the Lanka Premier League T20. But, it didn’t happen. Instead, the LPL team owners were changed. For instance, the team owners of the Jaffna Stallions were changed. And this leads to the change of their team name as well, from Jaffna Stallions to Jaffna Kings. Two other teams also changed their names. Dambulla Viikings and Colombo Kings to Dambulla Giants and Colombo Stars respectively, following the change of their owners.Sri Lanka League Teams
