5. Chennai Super Kings – 240/5 against Kings XI Punjab in 2008
Starting from the number 5 on our list, Chennai Super Kings team gave a power-packed performance in IPL 2008. The team made history by scoring 240 at the loss of 5 wickets in 20 overs. What makes it even more interesting is that it was only the second match of the IPL inaugural edition. And still, this record is on number 5.
Over the years, Chennai Super Kings proved their strength not only in batting but in other fields of cricket as well. However, the host opponent back in 2008 was Kings XI Punjab. And it was no week team. They too had a flock of batting beasts including Kumar Sangakara and James Hopes. Both the batsmen tried chasing the target of 240 with their 50s, but the mountain was too higher to climb. And Punjab Kings ended up with 207 runs at the loss of 4 wickets in 20 overs.
Michael Hussey was the star of the match with his 116 runs and not out. And he was well supported by Suresh Raina and S Badrinath. At the end of the day, CSK was a winner of the match by defeating KXIP with 33 runs.
4. Kolkata Knight Riders – 245/6 against Kings XI Punjab in 2018
The two times champion KKR IPL team has always been a strong team of the league. It has one of the most loyal fans following the likes of Shreyas Iyer, Eoin Morgan, Sunil Narine, Shubman Gill, and Andre Russell. KKR marks their name in the list of IPL best team with scoring 245 at the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs.
The opponent team, Punjab Kings spent every inch of energy to chase this target but ended up with 214 runs at the loss of 8 wickets. Though, their efforts were to be appreciated. Still, they missed marking the victory to their name. Punjab Kings skipper KL Rahul did shoot seven 6s in 29 balls but all in vain, because in the end, KKR won the match by 31 runs.
It was a great season for the KKR though, as they ended up in the playoffs first and then ranked 3rd in the IPL 2018.
While talking of the match, it happened in Indore and Sunil Narine was Man of the Match with 75 runs at a strike rate of 208.33. Also, KKR’s captain Dinesh Karthik scored his 50 in 23 balls. And their duo was the best of the match.
3. Chennai Super Kings highest score in IPL – 246/5 against Rajasthan Royals in 2010
This is the second time CSK marked their name in the list of best teams in IPL history. They made the IPL’s highest score for the second time and broke their record of 240/5. This match took place in Chennai in their own home ground M.A Chidambaram Stadium on April 3rd 2010. The stadium was jam-packed with spectators as the two strong teams faced each other.
CSK won the toss and decided to bat first. They made a mammoth score of 246 at the loss of 5 wickets in 20 overs. CSK’s captain Murali Vijay was Man of the Match as he scored 127 in 56 balls only at a strike rate of 226.78. After him, was Albie Morkel who scored 62 in 34 balls. An explosive duo of Mathew Hayden and Albie Morkel was the best of the match.
And CSK was the match-winner with a margin of 23 runs, as Rajasthan Royals ended up with 223 runs only at the loss of 5 wickets. Though, batsmen like Naman Ojha, Michael Lumb, and Shane Watson tried their best. But, the target was way higher to reach. Naman Ojha was, however, super close to his century that day with 94 at 55 balls.
2. Royal Challengers Bangalore highest score in IPL – 248/3 against Gujarat Lions in 2016
Second, on our list is the team that is the sensation of IPL even when they haven’t won their maiden IPL title yet. It is the RCB we’re talking about. With a huge fan base and one of the best cricketers in the world, RCB has celebrated the world over. It has the likes of Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, and Chris Gayle who single-handedly can save the match.
The match took place in Chennai at M.Chinnaswamy stadium between RCB and Gujarat Lions in 2016. Gujrat Lions won the toss and decided to chase the target. However, RCB raised the bar so high that they ended up losing the match by a margin of 144 runs. The ever-famous duo of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers made RCB reach a massive 248 at the loss of 3 wickets only. AB de Villiers was Man of the Match with 129 runs and 16 sixers. Following him was Virat Kohli who made 109 in 55 balls and a strike rate of 198.18.
On the other side, Gujarat Lions could only make 104 runs at the loss of all their wickets under the captaincy of Dinesh Karthik who made not so good score and was caught out by AB de Villiers after 4 balls only.
1. Royal Challengers Bangalore highest score in IPL – 263/5 against Pune Warriors India in 2013
RCB is the best team in IPL history with the highest team total of 263/5. They made this record back in 2013 while playing against Pune Warriors India. And since then, no team has broken this record. The match took place in Bengaluru where the Warriors won the toss and decided to field first.
Royal Challengers Bangalore team scored a mammoth total of 263 at the loss of 5 wickets in 20 overs. All thanks to the power-hitting performance of Chris Gayle who alone made 175 runs in 66 balls only. It was one of the best matches of his IPL career, as no one ever made an individual score this high. And it is one of the reasons why Chris is known as the Universal Boss. His explosive performance made him win Man of the Match. And cameos by T Dilshan and AB de Villiers pushed RCB towards 263.
To fans’ surprise, Virat Kohli could not do much in this match, as he was run out by Ashok Dinda after 9 balls only.
On the other side, in Pune Warriors India, no batsman even crossed a 50. Their highest score was 41 made by Steve Smith and they ended up with only 133 runs at the loss of 9 wickets.
